NEW!  An important request

"As our President continues to serve this nation, let us all remember to pray for his salvation, and for his whole family to come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Prayer should be offered also for wisdom (from above) as well as understanding."   ~Pastor James Mercer

  Important!  Pray for Our Nation!

Read this: The Manhattan Declaration

Read 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (ESV)- This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

After Paul places a priority on prayer and specific prayer for civil authorities, he then says that this kind of prayer is good and pleasing – one that is welcomed by God. In other words, when someone prays on behalf of civil authorities, that person has God’s attention. Why does that kind of prayer get God’s attention? God wants people to pray for civil authorities because God wants all people to be saved and to know the truth of His Word. Prayer for civil authorities creates an atmosphere that is conducive to the proclamation of the gospel. Men can create a spiritual atmosphere in their community by their prayers.  HonorBound Devotion by Cecil Culbreth who serves as president of His Story Ministries, equipping the church to pray on behalf of students in America.

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

The Jerusalem Cross, also known as the Crusaders Cross and the Five-Fold Cross, is comprised of Greek and Tau crosses. Four Tau crosses meet in the center creating a Greek cross. Four additional Greek crosses, one in each corner, make a total of five crosses.

The symbolism of the five crosses has been explained in a variety of ways. Here are a few:  The five crosses represent the five wounds Jesus received on the cross. The large center cross represents the wound in Jesus' side while the four smaller crosses represent the wounds he received in his hands and feet. The large center cross represents Jesus and the four smaller crosses represent the four Gospel writers. The four smaller crosses represent the four corners of the earth to which the gospel is being taken or for which Jesus died. The five crosses represent the five nations active in the Crusades: Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The five crosses represent the five principalities of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Cross was employed as an emblem by the Crusaders. Godfrey de Bouillon, who became the first ruler of Jerusalem after it was captured from the Moslems in 1099, wore the Jerusalem Cross as his symbol.

This plaque is on the wall next to the doorway of the "Church of Primacy of St. Peter" near the Sea of Galilee.  It reads, "At thy Word I will let down the net.  Luke 5:5"  and "The deeds and miracles of Jesus are not actions of the past.  Jesus is still waiting for those who are prepared to take risks at His Word because they trust His power utterly."

Your Prayer Requests

A Pattern for Prayer from John Wesley

"Lord Jesus, if you will receive me into your house, if you will but own me as your servant, I will not stand upon terms;  impose upon me what conditions you please, write down your own articles, command me what you will, put me to anything you see as good; let me come under your roof, let me be your servant... make me what you will, Lord and set me where you will. .... I put myself wholly into your hands: put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will; put me to doing, put me to suffering, let me be employed for you,  or laid aside for you, exalted for you, or trodden under foot for  you; let me be full, let me be empty, let me have all things, let me have nothing, I freely and heartily resign all to your pleasure and disposal.  Amen."

One of our Native men that I worked with and encouraged to go forward in ministry, received his License to Preach from the General Council of the Assemblies of God in Springfield, MO. With his license was a letter from the General Secretary, the Rev. George O. Wood.  Here is an excerpt of that letter which made us really stop and think.  "In the powerful words of John Wesley, I covet this prayer as a pattern for your own praying -- an unswerving and obedient surrender to His call upon your life!"  With those words, Rev. Wood introduced the above prayer.

One pastor described Wesley's prayer as "gutsy"!  Pray it only if you're sincere, because God will take you seriously!

Don't Quit

When things go wrong

As they sometimes will

When the road you're trudging

Seems all uphill,

When the funds are low

And the debts are high,

And you want to smile,

But you have to sigh.

When care is pressing you down a bit..

By all means pray, and don't you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out.

God's hidden gift in the clouds of doubt

You never can tell how close you are,

It may be close when it seems afar

So trust in the Lord

When you're hardest hit…

It's when things go wrong,

That you must not quit!

My goodness, time does not go by slowly at all!! As we age, the speed of time increases rapidly!! Yeshua of Nazareth’s coming is sooo near, is it not!! Years ago there was a song, “I Wish We’d All Been Ready!”

Is your house in order, aligned with God’s plan for human salvation? We do pray so, as it is THE MOST PRICELESS GIFT ever offered to us!! We find it hard to believe that so many just pass it off as nothing, when in reality Jesus’ request is for us to simply say “Yes, come into my heart please, and forgive my sin!” Then follow Him the rest of our lives here on earth.

Nancy is doing well, had some eye surgery and recovering very nicely along with getting new glasses in two weeks. Myself, my new right hip that was replaced is healing very nicely and we are both happy about that for each one’s medical improvement!!

I wish to say something here that I don’t like to talk about much, as am not into begging for money, rather trusting the Lord. Most don’t know or understand that missionaries and pastors, when retired, struggle to get by in their later years. PLEASE DON’T STOP YOUR SUPPORT TO SOMEONE  just because they retired… as we really don’t do that completely! We know several who are struggling in their so called “Golden Years!”

Never tell one of them, “You have enough to live on, and don’t need my support anymore.” THAT IS NOT TRUE!”  But we have been told that, as well as others.

Enough said about that, you can pray about it, if you will, for all of us.

We are planning to go to Arizona this fall to see our children and grand-children, pending any more surgeries, which we pray won’t happen to Jim for awhile. We haven’t been able to see them for some time due to Jim’s spine surgery that kept us here while he was having a long recovery.

Jeremiah 29:11-14. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has never failed us in answering or guiding as we seek Him.  We have other friends returning to the field of overseas ministry, so please keep them in prayer over their visas and other needs. Thank you!

Be faithful to your local church and the ministries there, as the conditions of our churches are a reflection of our service to Christ!

Thank you for stopping in, come back often and drop us a line to let us know how you are doing as well.

The Gospel Road leads to salvation through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Are you walking on that road?
If you are not, please consider the following scriptures.

John 14:5 Jesus said unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."
Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done,  but according to His mercy He saved us,  by  the washing of  regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Romans 3:23 "...all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 10:9-10 "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

"Father, I have sinned."
Luke 15:18

It is quite certain that those whom Christ has washed in His precious blood need not make a confession of sin, as culprits or criminals, before God the Judge, for Christ has forever taken away all their sins in a legal sense, so that they no longer stand where they can be condemned, but are once for all accepted in the Beloved; but having become children, and offending as children, ought they not every day to go before their heavenly Father and confess their sin, and acknowledge their iniquity in that character?

Nature teaches that it is the duty of erring children to make a confession to their earthly father, and the grace of God in the heart teaches us that we, as Christians, owe the same duty to our heavenly Father. We daily offend, and ought not to rest without daily pardon. For, supposing that my trespasses against my Father are not at once taken to Him to be washed away by the cleansing power of the Lord Jesus, what will be the consequence?

If I have not sought forgiveness and been washed from these offences against my Father, I shall feel at a distance from Him; I shall doubt His love to me; I shall tremble at Him; I shall be afraid to pray to Him: I shall grow like the prodigal, who, although still a child, was yet far off from his father. But if, with a child's sorrow at offending so gracious and loving a Parent, I go to Him and tell Him all, and rest not till I realize that I am forgiven, then I shall feel a holy love to my Father, and shall go through my Christian career, not only as saved, but as one enjoying present peace in God through Jesus Christ my Lord.

There is a wide distinction between confessing sin as a culprit, and confessing sin as a child. The Father's bosom is the place for penitent confessions. We have been cleansed once for all, but our feet still need to be washed from the defilement of our daily walk as children of God.
~By Charles Haddon Spurgeon in Morning and Evening

“ACQUAINT NOW THYSELF WITH HIM.”
Text: Job 22:21

If we would rightly “acquaint ourselves now with God, and be at peace,” we must know Him as He has rightly revealed Himself, not only in the unity of His essence and substance, but also in plurality of His persons.

God said, “Let us make man in our own image”—let man not be content until he knows something of “us” from whom his being is derived. Endeavour to know the Father, bury your head in His bosom in deep repentance, and confess that you are not worry to be called His son; receive the kiss of His love; let the ring which is the token of His eternal faithfulness be on your finger; sit at His table and let your heart make merry of His grace.

Then press forward and seek to know much of the Son of God who is the brightness of His Father’s glory, and yet in unspeakable condescension of grace became man for our sakes; know Him in the singular complexity of His nature: eternal God, and yet suffering finite man; follow Him as He walks the waters with the tread of deity, and as He sits upon the well in weariness of humanity.

Be not satisfied unless you know much of Jesus Christ as your Friend, Brother, your Husband, your all. Forget not the Holy Spirit; endeavor to obtain a dear view of His character and nature, His attributes, and His works. Behold the Spirit of the Lord that moved upon chaos and brought order forth; who now visits the chaos of your soul, and creates the order of holiness. Behold Him as the Lord and giver of Spiritual life, the Illuminator, the Instructor, the Comforter and the Sanctifier.

Behold Him as, like holy unction, He descends upon the head of Jesus, and then afterwards descends upon you who are as the skirts of His garments. Such an intelligent, scriptural, and experimental belief in the Trinity of Unity is yours if you truly know God; and such knowledge brings peace indeed.   --Charles H. Spurgeon

I drew them with the cords of a man, with bands of love…”

Hosea 11.4

Our heavenly Father often draws us with the cords of love; but ah! how backward we are to run towards Him! How slowly we respond to His gentle impulses! He draws us to exercise a more simple faith in Him; but we have not yet attained to Abraham’s confidence; we do not leave our worldly cares with God, but, like Martha, we cumber ourselves with much serving. Our meager faith brings leanness into our souls; we do not open our mouths wide though God has promised to fill them. Does not this evening draw us to trust Him? Can we not hear Him say, “Come, My child, and trust Me. The veil is rent; enter into My presence, and approach boldly to the throne of My grace. I am worthy of thy fullest confidence, cast thy cares on Me. Shake thyself from the dust of thy cares, and put on thy beautiful garments of joy.”

But, alas, though called with tones of love to the blessed exercise of this comforting grace, we will not come. At another time He draws us to closer communion with Himself. We have been sitting at the doorstep of God’s house, and He bids us to advance into the banqueting hall and sup with Him, but we decline the honor. There are secret rooms not yet opened to us; Jesus invites us to enter them, but we hold back. Shame on our cold hearts! We are but poor lovers of the sweet Lord Jesus, not fit to be His servants, much less to be His bride, and yet He hath exalted us bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh, married to Him by a glorious marriage-covenant.

Herein is love! But it is love which takes no denial. If we obey not the gentle drawings of His love, He will send affliction to drive us into closer intimacy with Himself. Have us nearer He will. What foolish children are we to refuse those bands of love, and so bring upon our backs that scourge of small cords, which Jesus knows how to use!  -Charles H. Spurgeon

RELATIONSHIP
“And they gave Him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but He received it not.”
--Mark 15.23

A golden truth is couched in the fact that the Saviour put the myrrhed-cup from His lips. On the heights of heaven the Son of God stood of old, and as He looked down upon our globe He measured the long descent to the utmost depths of human misery; He cast up the sum total of all the agonies which expiation would require, and abated not a jot.

He solemnly determined that to offer a sufficient atoning sacrifice He must go the whole way, from the highest to the lowest, from the throne of highest glory to the cross of the deepest woe. This myrrhed-cup, with its soporific influence, would have stayed Him within a little of the utmost limit of misery, therefore He refused it. He would not stop short of all He had undertaken to suffer for His people.

Ah, how many of us have pined after reliefs to our grief which would have been injurious to us! Reader, did you never pray for a discharge from hard service or suffering with a petulant and willful eagerness? Providence has taken from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke. Say, Christian, if it had been said, “If you so desire it, that loved one of yours shall live, but God will be dishonoured,” could your have put away the temptation, and said, “Thy will be done”? Oh, it is sweet to be able to say, “My Lord, if for other reasons I need not suffer, yet if I can honor Thee more by suffering, and if the loss of my earthly all will bring thee glory, then so let it be. I refuse the comfort, if it comes in the way of Thine honour.”

O that we thus walked more in the footsteps of our Lord, cheerfully enduring trial for His sake, promptly and willingly putting away the thought of self and comfort when it would interfere with our finishing work which He has given us to do.

GREAT GRACE IS NEEDED, BUT GREAT GRACE IS PROVIDED!!

“And they fortified Jerusalem unto the broad wall.”
--Nehemiah 3.8

Cities well fortified have broad walls, and so had Jerusalem in her glory. The New Jerusalem must, in like manner, be surrounded and preserved by a broad wall of nonconformity to the world, and separate from its customs and spirit. (1 John 2:15—17 JFM).

The tendency of these days break down the holy barrier, and make the distinction between church and the world merely nominal. Professors are no longer strict and Puritanical, questionable literature is read on all hands, frivolous pastimes are currently indulged, and a general laxity threatens to deprive the Lord’s peculiar people of those sacred singularities which separate them from sinners. It will be an ill day for the church and the world when the proposed amalgamation shall be complete, and the sons of God and the daughters of men shall be one: then shall another deluge of wrath be ushered in. Beloved reader, be it your aim in heart, in word, in dress, in action to maintain the broad wall, remembering that the friendship of the world is enmity against God.

The broad wall afforded a pleasant place of resort for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, from which they could command prospects of the surrounding country.
This reminds us of the Lord’s exceeding broad commandments, in which we walk at liberty in communion with Jesus, overlooking the scenes of earth, and looking out towards the glories of heaven. Separated from the world, and denying ourselves all ungodliness and fleshly lusts, we are nevertheless not in prison, nor restricted within narrow bounds; nay, we walk at liberty, because we keep His precepts.

Come, reader, this evening walk with God in His statutes. As friend met friend up the city wall, so meet thou thy God in the way of holy prayer and meditation. The bulwarks of salvation thou hast a right to traverse, for thou art a freeman of royal burgh, and a citizen of the metropolis of the universe.

A prayer of confession on behalf of the USA

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!” Prayer by Billy Graham, as aired by radio commentator Paul Harvey.

Why did Jesus fold the napkin?

John 20:6-7 reads (in The King James Version) "Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about His head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself."

“Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put Him!'

"Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side.

"Was that important? Absolutely!

"Is it really significant? Yes!

"In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'.

"But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because… The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!'
