Below are pictures of what was once home to the Inupiat people in Kotzebue. The food cache was higher and farther from the dwelling place, in case of bears.

Next time we think we have it hard, look at what they lived in for over 6,000 years! 

No one does so in our area now, but they keep these as historical dwellings.

All these pictures were taken in March 2004, by Pastor Mercer. Snow acted as insulation, and the low ceilings also helped keep the occupants warm.
